About

Congratulations! You’ve found the weblog for Justin S. Houk. You lucky dog.  Here’s where I put stuff that I am thinking about either in my life as a programmer or a games designer that are too big to fit in a tweet.

Rather than figure out a whole new rant about myself, I’m just going to cut and paste what I wrote for my Google profile.  Better living through advanced technology!

In a past life, I was a software developer.  I loved learning new languages and architectures, and I had the opportunity to build products in Perl, C, C++, C#, PHP, Java, JavaScript and Ruby.  I had the chance to write on top of Linux systems, Windows systems, PowerTV (a custom OS for cable TV set top boxes hardly anyone knows about), a few JavaScript middlewares, Tomcat and Rails.  It was grand fun.

My favorite part about my job was building tools that transformed something that was difficult to do into something easy.

In my current life, I’ve been reincarnated as one of the founders of a game company working on a new type of online multiplayer roleplaying game.  I have the great good fortune of getting to continue to do everything I loved to do in my past life and adding onto it the opportunity to do game development and industry analysis.  Moreover, everyone I have in my ‘10×10 Room‘ circle is also in my ‘friends’ circle, which should say it all.

I love the evolution of the web to a platform that can compete with traditional operating systems with a passion that transcends the rational.

I have an amazing wife and two wonderful little boys.

Needless to say, I’m rather busy.
